Faith-Filled Friday: Colossians 3:12 Clothe Yourself

This Faith-Filled Friday, discussed Colossians 3:12, which reads, "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, and patience." This passage speaks to Christians, addressing them as God's chosen people and reminding them of their holiness and God's love for them. The passage also calls attention to the importance of intentionally putting on the character of Christ in our everyday lives. The podcast host encouraged listeners to take time out of their busy lives to listen to God's Word and ponder it, as well as to intentionally clothe themselves with the traits of Christ. By doing so, Christians can exemplify a life that is full of compassion, kindness, humility, and patience.

Colossians 3:12 reminds us to clothe ourselves with compassion, forgiveness, and humility. We are called to clothe ourselves with compassion, which is the ability to feel empathy and show kindness towards others, even during difficult times. We are also called to clothe ourselves with forgiveness, which is the act of letting go of anger and resentment and choosing to extend grace and mercy instead. Lastly, we are called to clothe ourselves with humility, which is to act with humility and recognize our limitations. By living out these values and virtues, we are reflecting the heart of God and showing His love to those around us.

This conversation speaks of the need for believers to choose to forgive, to love, and to clothe themselves in the virtues of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. The speaker urges us to forgive because it is necessary to live an abundant life and to remember that God always enables and empowers us to do what he calls us to do. As we seek to reflect God's character in all we do, the speaker encourages us to show compassion to those in need through acts of service or prayer. Showing kindness involves being considerate and generous to others. Cultivating humility involves recognizing our dependency on God and being willing to serve others. Practicing gentleness involves having a meek and gentle spirit and avoiding harshness and aggression. Finally, exhibiting patience involves enduring trials and difficulties without losing faith and hope, trusting in God's goodness and timing.

In this Faith with Friends podcast, the host discussed the importance of putting on the spiritual clothes of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. The host reminded listeners that they should seek God's spirit and strength each morning before they get dressed. He encouraged listeners to remember that they are God's chosen people, dearly loved, and to clothe themselves in the spiritual garments that God commands us to put on. He concluded the podcast by encouraging the listeners to like and subscribe, and to share the podcast with their friends so that the circle of faith with friends will continue to grow.

Faith with Friends Podcast: Clothe Yourself in Compassion, Kindness, Humility, Gentleness, and Patience

Highlights

When you wake up in the morning and you're getting ready for the day, remember, before you get dressed to put on these things, to intentionally seek the spirit and strength of God for guidance, that you and I would be able to reflect the character of God in all that we do through compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. So now that we've taken a look at that, let's hear it again. Colossians 312 therefore, as God's chosen people wholly and dearly loved, clothe yourself, my friend, in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

And the fourth one, practicing gentleness in your words and actions. Now, this can come easy to some people through words or some people through actions. But rarely do you find someone who is able to be gentle in words and actions. Gentleness involves, remember, having a meek and gentle spirit, a calm and peaceful demeanor. I love to be around those people so we can strive to be tender hearted towards others in our words and our actions by avoiding harshness and aggression.

And that's something you have to cultivate in your relationships. Which leads us to the next one, cultivating humility in your heart. It's recognizing all good things come from God and then being willing to serve God with the good things. Humility involves recognizing those good things, like we talked about, that come from God. And then being willing to serve others. We can seek to cultivate a spirit of humility in our hearts, recognizing our dependency on God and then being willing to put others needs before your own.

Prayer is an act of compassion. When you spend time and effort going before the Father and bringing some friends with you, literally, what are their burdens? Bring their burdens with you. That's an act of compassion. How can you show compassion to those that are hurting around you today? So what about practicing kindness in our relationships? All right. Well, it involves being considerate of others and showing them goodwill. And this can be a word of encouragement, a helping hand or simply being attentive to their needs.
