Communication 101: Heart Check, Part 2

Learning How to Forgive and Build Better Relationships

Sometimes, we feel so hurt by someone that we become blinded by our anger and refuse to forgive. We want justice for what was done to us, and the only way to get it is to hold on to unforgiveness and let the pain eat away at our souls. However, the longer you hang on to anger and resentment, the more it will hurt you because your unforgiveness is an open wound in your soul. It is like drinking poison and expecting someone else to die.

Join today’s Therapy Thursday conversation with me, Lisa, and my friend Dr. Lidia Martinez as we talk about building better relationships with other people by guarding your heart and constantly forgiving yourself and the other person. Know how to internally communicate effectively and out of the abundance of the heart, and your forgiving actions will be evident.

Notable Quotes:

● You have to check yourself and ensure you are in a good place to talk to other people. When you are in a bad mood, negative things that can hurt others will come out of your mouth.

● God knows our hearts. He knows it’s full of sins.

● Bitterness is like being stabbed in your back, taking out the knife and walking around with it and stabbing yourself every morning to remind yourself how painful it was.

● Forgiving someone does not necessarily mean restoring the relationship you had.

● Unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting someone else to die.

● Forgiveness is giving up hope for a better past.

● Do not punish yourself when you do wrong. It’s okay to accept that we all make mistakes.
